Multiple Teeth Replacement with Dental Implants
Tooth loss has several causes. One of the most common causes of tooth loss is gum disease. You may also lose teeth as a result of issues such as facial trauma or severe tooth decay. When you suffer tooth loss, your entire life is affected. At ROOT™ Periodontal and Implant Center, we can replace multiple missing teeth with dental implants.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a treatment used to replace missing teeth. This modern alternative to traditional bridges and dentures uses titanium posts, which are surgically implanted into your jawbone. As you heal from surgery, your jawbone fuses to the posts, a process called osseointegration. This process stabilizes the posts within your jaw, turning them into secure roots that are then used to provide support for your dental restorations. The restorations, typically made from ceramic, replace the visible crowns of your missing teeth, restore your abilities to bite, chew, and speak, while also restoring the appearance of your smile. Dental implants are incredibly versatile and can replace a single tooth or multiple teeth.
Why Replace Multiple Teeth with Dental Implants?
There are many reasons why you might consider replacing multiple missing teeth with dental implants.
How are Dental Implants Placed?
The process for placing dental implants involves surgery. Surgery is performed under a local anesthetic, which prevents you from feeling pain. Sedation is also provided, which helps you to remain calm and relaxed during your treatment. Small incisions are made in your gums, providing us with access to your jawbone. Next, holes are drilled into the jaw, and the implant posts are placed directly inside. Finally, your gums are sutured closed, and temporary teeth are placed.
It can take several weeks to several months for your mouth to heal following your implant surgery. During this time, several follow up visits allow us to monitor your mouth to ensure that your jawbone is fusing to the posts properly and that there are no other complications. Once you have fully healed, we then remove the temporary teeth and place abutments, or connectors. Next, impressions of your mouth are taken. These impressions are sent to our dental lab. Technicians use the impressions to design and create your custom dental restorations. Once the restorations have been completed, they are checked for fit, bite, and that they match the color of your natural teeth. If no adjustments are needed, and everything looks good, your restorations are screwed into place on the implant posts with small screws.
Dental implants provide you with numerous benefits, restoring the functions of your missing teeth, improving the beauty of your smile, and protecting the health of your jawbone.
