Why All-on-4 is Better Than Dentures

All on 4 Dental Implant Treatment diagram used by Flower Mound & Carrollton Periodontist at ROOT™ Periodontal and Implant Center. Many of our patients with missing teeth have been wearing dentures for years. However, dental implants are becoming more and more popular, mainly what is known as all-on-4 implants.

We are pleased to let our patients know that here at ROOT™ Periodontal and Implant Center we offer this new technology for missing teeth.

Reasons for Tooth Loss

When a child loses a tooth, it's exciting and can prompt celebration and a visit from the Tooth Fairy. However, if an adult loses a tooth, there is nothing to celebrate.

A traumatic blow to the face can cause missing teeth, for example, after a car accident or while playing sports. However, tooth loss also happens due to poor oral hygiene, lack of professional dental care, which can lead to periodontal disease, the number one reason for tooth loss in the United States. According to the most recent data, more than 35 million Americans are missing either all their lower or upper teeth.

Dentures

Dentures are a removable tooth replacement device that comes in two different kinds.
•  Partial Dentures - when a patient still has some of his or her natural teeth.
•  Complete Dentures - are used when all of the teeth are missing.

Dentures have been used for decades because it is the cheapest and most available form of tooth replacement.

Whether your teeth fall out on their own or you have them extracted, you will need something to replace them so you can eat and speak properly. Many patients choose a denture as their treatment option, and we take an impression of your teeth and gums to create the contraption that will hold your new teeth.

A partial denture uses one or more teeth as anchors to keep the device in place. We build a crown that looks like a natural tooth on the partial, which will also prevent other teeth from shifting positions.

All-on-4 Implants are Better Than Dentures

With new technology, we can now replace all the upper or lower teeth in one procedure which is known as all-on-4 implants. It is a relatively new surgery where our surgeon can use four titanium rods to hold the implant in place. So, in this case, you won't need implants for each missing tooth.

This revolutionary technology is helping millions of patients with missing teeth regain their confidence, and the good news is that it enjoys a high rate of success among our patients that have already gone through it.

The implant is made of titanium, which fuses with the bone and helps to regenerate it by preventing future bone loss and stimulating new growth. This is one of the most significant advantages of all-on-4 implants or any dental implant and something that's not possible with dentures.

While all-on-4 is one of the best options for people with missing teeth, not everyone is a candidate for these implants. You need to have a good bone structure to support the implants. However, even patients with less than ideal bone structure can benefit from other surgeries that will allow them to get implants.
