How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

The cost of having one dental implants placed averages between $3000-$4,500, which includes surgery, components, and the crown. As is the case with any dental or medical procedure, the total cost may be impacted by other factors, such as what type of dental insurance you have, whether additional procedures are required (sinus grafting, tooth socket preservation, bone graft, etc.) and whether dental sedation is used. It is also important to factor in the cost of the initial examination, which will generally cost between $50-$300, although this cost may be more if diagnostic exams like X-Rays are necessary.

Although most periodontists use a similar type of dental implant, there are generic options available, which may cost less, but will not likely have as high of a success rate.  This may also contribute to the difference in pricing between different offices.

Insurance Coverage

Although they can make a significant difference in preserving your oral health and preventing additional issues from developing, dental implants are typically categorized as a cosmetic procedure and are not always covered by dental insurance. The most effective way to accurately determine what your anticipated costs will be and whether the procedure is covered by your insurance is to consult with your periodontist. If the procedure is not covered by insurance and the cost of having dental implants placed is detrimental to your financial well-being, consider the following options.

Dental Discount Plans

One popular option for covering costs of dental bills is enrolling in a dental discount plan. Dental discount plans are a popular alternative for individuals who do not have dental insurance and/or who are dissatisfied with limited reimbursement, yearly caps, and waiting periods. By becoming a member of a dental discount plan, you will pay a negotiated rate, either monthly or annually, and receive a discounted rate on services. There are many benefits to dental discount plans, including no waiting periods, no -co-pay, no deductible, and no limit on how often the plan can be used. Every dental discount plan is slightly different, so be sure to carefully research your options to make sure the plan you select covers dental implants and is in your dentist or periodontics approved network. Discounts typically range between 20-50%, with more routine procedures having the higher discount.

Payment Plans

The cost involved in having dental treatment done is an important consideration for nearly all patients. This is especially true in the case of dental implants, which cost more than other methods of tooth replacement, but which also provide the best results. If you are concerned about being unable to cover the cost of dental implants or any other treatment that is necessary to preserve your oral health, talk to your dentist or periodontist about payment plan

options. Many clinics offer patients the option to pay for a percentage of the procedure up front and pay the rest of the balance with monthly installments.
